Pattern Pearls And Leaves

Pearls And Leaves is a reproduction of a detail of a Portuguese tile panel from the first half of the 20th century, with the characteristic that it was not traditionally hand-painted, but stamped. I found it on one of the interior walls of the iconic Livramento Market in Setúbal, a building demolished in 1876 and reopened in 1930.

Drawing and creating patterns is one of my favorite exercises as a way to relax and drive creativity. Most patterns are inspired by Portuguese tiles from the 15th to the 20th centuries, which are rich in detail, symmetry and harmony of shapes, but also some Spanish, English and rather all over the world tiles. This category is specially applied to wall decoration, but perfectly adjustable to fabrics printing and any other supports/substrates.
